It’s a short post as, aside from stating how good the shirts are, there not much more to say…
Years ago, I was friendly with a Jermyn St. shirtcutter who rarely had anything good to say about anyone else’s wares, but even he perked up at the mention of Emmett shirts. I don’t know Robert Emmett; I’ve no particular desire to meet Robert Emmett. I don’t work in PR, nor am I connected with the fashion industry. I’m just a guy who buys clothes; all I’ve got to say here is that Emmett makes fantastic shirts. The combination of fabric, colour, and tailoring is exceptional. He does outrageous and classic with equal aplomb. In short, we’re talking about a master craftsman. Come to that, we might be talking about an artist. I think they retail at about two-hundred quid, and while I appreciate that’s not cheap, given what you get, they’re worth every penny…
I don’t know much about Emmett’s clientele, but I suspect they cater to swells who fancy themselves as being a little more free-spirited than their contemporaries. I don’t like to think too much about the establishment’s target market, as I fear it might put me right off. Much the same as them, knowing an oik like me, was wandering around in Emmett dickies. Then again, all of this might reside purely in my imagination.
I know nothing about Mr Emmett, but for this post, I read an interview where he came across as a decent guy. Though, in truth, it wouldn’t bother me if he came across as a cad and a bounder… The man’s shirts are that good. I first came across them maybe a decade ago. TK Maxx had a load in. I got one, ran back the next day to get a couple more, and the collection’s grown steadily since. Each of those shirts has certainly stood the test of time. Some of the designs may appear a tad ‘weird and whacky’, and perhaps they are, but what separates them from being merely that is the quality, it’s exceptional. This is a short post, as there’s not much more I’ve got to say about Emmett shirts. They’ve got a few shops. I think there’s one on Kings Rd. Maybe that was their first? There’s one on Jermyn Street I know that much. If you enjoy clobber and you’re ever passing one of Emmett’s shops pop-in, they’re great shirts.
